The world is facing challenges, but optimism persists. A novel accolade originating at the interdisciplinary festival Starmus will inspire individuals to take action.

The medal is to be awarded in honour of the renowned British primatologist who died this year. It seeks to acknowledge those who protect life on Earth.

The Medal's Framework

Initial honorees are slated for announcement during the Starmus VIII festival in the Canary Islands, scheduled from October 17th to 22nd the coming year.

It was shared that Jane Goodall, who was a Starmus advisory board member, had endorsed the medal's establishment. “The vision behind this medal, and the festival being tasked to oversee it, originated with Jane,” a representative said. “Her desire was she would like this to happen. And I think due to the very special bond she had with us.”

“This medal aims to highlight sustainable programmes undertaken to create a planet a better place for people, animals and the environment and foster motivation to continue that work,” said a family member.

Structure and Vision

A co-founder of Starmus stated that the medal – unveiled at a scientific institution – would probably include several divisions.

“It will be modeled after the Stephen Hawking award for science communication established a decade past,” he explained. Goodall was an honoree of that very medal.

Sharing thoughts on the outlook for Earth, one figure said, “Honestly, it's challenging to feel hopeful. Present governance globally is conducting an assault on knowledge. This situation significantly hampers the world’s efforts.”

“In truth, things don’t look particularly bright therefore we must really start thinking again, much more seriously regarding the impact of our actions. This concern encompasses not just climate change, that’s the entire manner that we treat nature.”

A major topic at present was highlighted of misinformation. The theme of the upcoming Starmus festival is set as “the search for truth”.

“There is a recognition that truth is becoming a matter of debate where political interests are involved. This is a very dangerous thing,” he commented. “The science of climate is a science; it is impossible to allow interference by political agendas in climate science.”

Optimism and Resolve

The goal is that this honor will inspire action. “The purpose is encouraging people to get involved and to care and to strive in that direction, really. Regardless of if we’re optimistic, we have to look at doing our utmost,” a statement concluded. “Be prepared for setbacks, but you still continue striving to achieve positive outcomes.”

A descendant involved in conservation work shared hope that “given direction and when empowered, humans can be diligent stewards of our planet”, citing the programs of a foundation that, in addition to its projects, assists young people get involved with their community, wildlife, and environment.

“As Jane Goodall often reminded us, our daily actions are significant and it is up to us the kind of difference we make,” it was stated. “There is still time and the Starmus Jane Goodall Earth medal will offer support and increase understanding regarding the positive actions currently in progress.”
