Toy Story 5 Teaser Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Tablet Computer
Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story film debuted, establishing the animation giant as a leading film company and bringing audiences to beloved figures like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
In the teaser shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. Still, the characters seem to view it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is why Woody is back with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and helping prize toys find good homes.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting without warning is a little strange, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with him. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some aspects are continuing from the prior film. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), entrusting her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. In the teaser displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on June 19, 2026.
